View Full Version : Introducing “Cheap Smokes”

As soon as I realized that most of our cigar reviews concern smokes that cost above $8 (and the survey results seem to confirm that need for budget smoke reviews), I started thinking about a way to add more reviews for cheaper, under $5 cigars. The difficulty is that very often cigars in this price range do not provide a very rich flavor profile and doing a full review may seem pretty useless.
This is why the concept behind the “Cheap Smokes” series is to describe the cigar in just a couple of paragraphs (a picture of the stick is always welcome!). Just as well, we are not going to rate the appearance, construction and flavor, giving an overall “thumbs up!” or “thumbs down!” verdict instead. Hopefully we will be able to make it a weekly item.
If you are interested in telling us about your favorite budget smokes, we will be happy to publish your reviews. Get in touch with us to get started.

This could be a great thread and sticky when all of the entries are posted. Budget smokes doesn't have to mean they are not as good as cigars that are twice the price. I happen to really like Hoyos and Punch Rothchilds Maduro. They are very flavorful and at a price point that satisfies most anyones pocketbook. We all have our own taste profiles when it concerns the cigars we like so hopefully this won't turn into "what I like is better than what you like" kind of deal. I really look forward to seeing others choices on here so I can research them and hopefully have more cigars on my "bucket list" of cigars to smoke.

I'm all over Hoyos. My fav smoke. The Hoyo Dark Sumatra might just break the 5 limit at $5.50 as B&M Singles, but if you get the box I think they are around 3.00 each. The Hoyo Dark Sumatra is my favorite smoke ever. They need some age on them but boy are they delicious after 6-12 months age.

Check the pricing on these Mike,,,not sure about the shipping to you but they are free in the US,,,maybe give them an email as to what they would do for you where you live. The pricing is pretty good and well under $5 for a couple of the sizes.

I did a split with Joel (Leojvs) so I have some Dark Sumatra in the Humi. I think I'll only get boxes of those bad boys. Plus 75 bucks for a box of 25 is a great price.

This reminds me of an aspect of the old site that I liked. It broke the reviews out by pricing category. This was very good to narrow your searching down.

Great idea. BTW- The Oliva Series G belicoso is always in my humidor and never disappoints, unlike some cigars twice the price or more. Pairs exceptionally well with an extra dry gin martini.
