Thought I'd share this for those interested. I know very, very little about it right now.

I do hear that it is sort of a viral campaign for a big cigar maker, one person on another forum hinted it was Camacho. BUT... that is total rumor mill garbage that I'm sharing.

I just signed up, confirmed, and got a link to their first video 'epsiode'.

I just checked out the first video. It was pretty entertaining and kind of sets the stage for what they are shooting at. The video was cheesy, but pretty cool.

I figured out who was behind the blackbandproject.com and posted this on twitter. Jerry Cruz and got in on the fun.. and we got an email from the company asking us to stop giving up the secret. They sent us 2 boxes of cigars to keep quiet and said they would incorporate us into the campaign.. heres to hoping they keep up the promise

Paul is that "accept the Adobe install", as in it's asking you to accept and let it install OR "except the Adobe install", as in it's not opening the installer???

I believe these videos run in Adobe Flash (used to be Macromedia) and you sometimes need to upgrade your player.

If the installer is asking you to accept then go for it. If not, try this link to upgrade the Flash player (http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/).

I just watched the 2nd episode, I am pretty sure I know who's behind it, I don't really care if I get any free cigars out of it, I just find it comical, and I am glad to see they aren't afraid to use foul language hahaha... If I do get some mystery sticks, you can bet I'll be reviewing them on cigar choice!

When you sign up and create an account, it saves a cookie on your drive. Every time you visit the site and view a page, the history can be tracked in a cookie, and checked. You start a video, stop it part way, watch it all the way through - could all be saved in a cookie. Finish one video, your account is updated, and another email sent. Once you finished all four, the goods are clear to leave the warehouse.

Just a thought - that's how I would do it personally.

Like Webby said, I would guess it is through cookies on your browser. I presume you each get a unique link, so they will know when you have watched it

Guys, here's some info from a Camacho rep, I thought this was pretty crappy so I did some digging. If you've received an email saying you wouldn't get smokes you might want to double-check where it came from...

Gents, cigars begin shipping early May as indicated on the website. Again, you must have watched all (4) videos to receive the unreleased cigars. Whoever said he received an email from us saying that he would not be getting product is mistaken. We never sent any emails out stating that.

I figured this was a pretty successful campaign for them. They generated a lot of buzz on the boards and it spread like wildfire, plus the videos were entertaining - even if they were somewhat corny. :)

Funny, a lot of people were scared to sign up for it - not sure what they thought it was going to do to them. Virus? Spam? Junkmail? Ninjas?

The new e-mail program I have has some bugs in it and when I tried to click through to see the third video I had a problem so I tried to access it through the website. At that point I wasn't recognized on the site and it thought I was just then trying to join up. Apparently by then membership was closed.

I'm assuming that the cigars will be sent out in order that the people signed up, to be fair if they run out of stock. Even if they did run out they should still send other Camacho lines, because we don't want another "Weed-like" situation to crop up again. I think we signed up in the middle of the promo so we may get ours towards the end of May or beginning of June.

Just a little update...

I left a note on Camacho's Facebook page and it was promptly deleted with no comment. Since that didn't work I went to the Camacho website and sent an email through the contact form and have not received a response.

Both times I simply asked what the status was and let them know that if they said they were shipping the cigars in early May then they should hold to that - or at least let us know what's going on.

The BBP was fun and I enjoyed the videos, but I was told up front I'd get something for my time. The offer of free cigars is generous and I appreciate it - but I also expect Camacho to deliver on their promise.

I sure wish they'd let us know what's going on.....

So they got a bunch of us to watch their videos and they won a lot of press for their "innovative" campaign. I know I will take them off my list of "must haves" (and they are in my top 10 right now) if they do not keep their obligation.

Just posted this in the thread on Puff that has the Camacho Marketing Guy posting on a regular basis (he just posted an update about 6 hours ago saying they had a delay due to the incident in Honduras)..

Still nothing in Northern VA.. posted this elsewhere, but first person to PM me gets mine when they show up.

No disrespect, I know they are "free cigars".. but delays need to be taken into account. "Delays in Hondoras" means.. "We put the videos out before we had the cigars in our hands. We told you all a date in which we would begin shipping, before we even know if we'd have them in our hands. You all took part of a marketing campaign which promised you some form of return and nearly 3 months after you were supposed to receive them, we barely even sent out half".

Free or not, this is a terrible case of great marketing with terrible follow through. I don't sell things in the WTS section unless I have them to sell, nor would I promise to give someone something that I do not have to give them.

So, once again, 3 Free Camacho Cigars to whoever wants em, if they ever arrive.

I have to admit, the delays have been ridiculous. I've already received mine but I would be the same way if I hadn't. Camacho's running a great viral marketing campaign trying to show they are tough, cutting edge, cool, and "F" the others - I think they actually say that in some of their vids.

Every time they post something on Facebook people reply with "Where the heck are my Black Band cigars?" The last time someone posted on there they replied and said they were sending 7,000 cigars out over the next 3 weeks.

I was a big fan of Camachos. They were one of my "go to" brands along with CAO, Gurkha, and Pepin Garcia. This whole thing has left a totally bad taste in my mouth. I agree with others here... they do not deserve my business any more. There are too many great cigars out there to waste time with a company that spends more time becomming the "official cigar of the Playboy Mansion" than taking care of their customers.

a tip for cigar companies: If you are going to do a FREE/PAID whatever promo make sure you have the stock to follow through. Otherwise send out cigars you DO have to keep your customers happy while they wait.

You can't tell me Camacho doesn't have cigars they could have sent to the other guys. I see them on the B&M shelfs everyday I go into one.
