During the last few weeks the humidity in my humidor has dropped to about 55% and the temp. is around 65 degrees. I'm in Michigan and it has been very cold lately and we keep the house between 65-70 degrees. Is there anyway to raise my humidity up to around 70% without raising the house temp.? I'm currently using a generic green foam humidifier with 50/50 fluid.

you don't need to get it to 70%. Shoot for 65-68%. add some distilled water to the foam...

double check the seal and add some 65% beads

When the temp and humidity drops at my house - I get a clean sponge - get it damp and put it in the humi on a plastic sandwich bag. This raises the humidity - If the humidity goes up - I remove the sponge and bag.

I have to agree get 65% beads or a cigar oasis

If your looking for a quick fix that will hold you until you get your beads Bill has a good point --- Check your humi every day until you get at the RH you desire--

all great replies. yup, beads are the way to go. that foam is way to unpredictable for me.

Jam had the quick fix or even a shot glass with distilled water in it and monitor the rh.

I tend to keep my smokes at around 65 rh and the temp btw 60-70.

I have a small humi that I put certain cigars in for 'dry boxing' just before I smoke them. they burn real nice that way.

get your beads from cigarmony (mark) or heartfelt industries. both botl post here I believe.

Must be something this week.. I've had zero problems keeping any of my 3 boxes between 65 and 70.. for some reason this week the one box I keep at 70 has been sitting at 65, the one I keep at 65 has been struggling to stay over 60 (even with the puck), and my infused box (also at 70) has been fluctuating between 58 and 65..

driving me crazy.. I haven't changed the temp pattern in my house, the only thing I can think is due to the arctic clip going through northern VA right now, my house is kicking heat on more and it's drying the house out a bit more than usual.

i'm with everyone else. humi is dropping badly, my box was 48% and 70degrees this afternoon.
I've been using humi-pouches from CI for months with no issues, but i dont think they can keep up with the dryness of the house in the dead of winter in ME, and a kinda crappy humidor. (never buy an ebay humidor) >> lesson learned.

I'm having low humidity issues right now between 65% to 68%, I tried all kinds of things to get it back to 70%, Then I thought the HELL with it, it has been a colder winter down here and the placement of my humidors in coolest spot in the house is the reason for thr humidity levels. In a few months it going to be hot as HELL down here and I'll be bitching about my humidors be over 70% humidity.

How many cigars are in it now? If you have 100 or more I'd suggest 70% beads and it'll probably settle at 65%. With the heater on, that can make it harder to keep the RH up.

Patchy!

The beads turning white means that they need to be hydrated again..

Spray them a little and they should turn clear again.. Just monitor them so that all of them are not clear.. It should adjust to their RH level..

Don't take viagra and liquor together! LOL!! You will be a kickstand!

dont forget cold air is by nature drier than summer air even at similar temps
so you might want to think about a winter reseanoning of your humidor
i actually just did that myself
*hint if your lips are chapped so are your cigars

Thanks to everyone for their input! I put a shot glass of distilled water in the humidor and conditions have improved. I also ordered some crystals to add to my humidor. Thanks again!!!

I use beads and I still have a hard time keeping it at 60%. I think the beads are 65% or 70% I dont have the bag by me. What do I do? The Rh goes from 50 to 60% in a day and back

That to me suggest the seal on your humi might not be tight. How long does it take for the beads to go white? Mine take anywhere from 2 weeks to a month

i put a flash liight in..and no light came out.
its a glass top..maybe theres issues there...

they go white in a week on the bottom..but the ones on the top stay wet..but they are a yellowish color..not clear..perhaps they absorbed the color of cigars

Are the humi's that are experiencing problems full or only sparcly populated?
A empty humi will almost never be stable due to you are primarily humidifying air rather than a solid material. Also when the relative humidity is <25% in the surrounding air the humi itself is being dried out from the air around it. Get a Rubbermade or Sterilite storage box and put the humi in there with a green floral sponge saturated with distilled water should also help.

do you guys have trouble keeping it at 70degrees? I find that my temp. is usually a bit over in the day and a bit under at night. What do you do to keep the temp. just right?

I dont think a flux of +-5 degrees will make a great deal of difference. Now if its 10-20 degrees that may change things

Ben, I just tried your trick of the florist foam in combo with the beads, and the humi has been VERY stable...

Try keeping the box in a room that does not get a lot of sunlight, ie a closet or the basement, where the temp is likely to be more stable all day long.

Several months ago I bought an 18 bottle VinoTemp (I think its a VinoTemp) on the cheap from Walmart. They weren't going to carry them anymore and had a closeout on the remaining stock. It keeps a constant 64 degrees and 65% humidity with a pound of Heartfelt beads (http://www.heartfeltindustries.com/products.asp?cat=14) near the condensation area under the fan. I also put a oust fan in the bottom to circulate the air. It was the best investment I ever made for my sticks. Right now I have 4 full (and I mean full) trays, 5 boxes and several '3 packs' in it. Never any problems - summer, winter, whatever.

Or you could send them to me and I will saftly store them for you. Although on occasion I have been know to have a fire or two causing the loss of my inventory. Actually they occure almost daily...:jumpy:

I use a drymistat stick, a jar of crystals...( a freebe from CI with my last order) and a foam thingamajig with 50/50 solution in it... my furnace is set to kick back to 60 degrees at 8:30 AM when no one is home and then back to 72 at 4:30...I notice very little temp fluctuation in my humidor and it is stable within a degree or 2. 68--70, unless I am gettin in it over the weekend..then it may drop down to 66 to 68

Been doing some reading here due to my RH acting a fool. yesterday its reading 61, no sweat, I sprayed the bead tubes. this a.m. when grabbing my days supply, reading 57. Keep the temp at 69 in the house which is pretty much what the humi temp reads....I tossed in a humi pouch. I believe because the hearter is kicking on more often w/these 20+-30 degree nights its sucking the RH from the house as well. We'll see this evening how the pouch does. the humi is rather FULL as well, which seems odd because I'm filling it w/smokes from my cooler which is STEADY at 67-70 w/the 70% beads. I figured that the higher RH the smokes may assist the desktop.

Just a bit of feedback, the humi-pouch raised the RH to 62....so far!
